Why is it important to get plugged into a Sunday School Class?
This seems to be a popular question among Christians today. Can't I just attend Worship and then go home? Corporate Worship is meaningful and necessary, but if that is all you are doing on Sundays, you are cutting off the Purpose of Church at the knees. God did not design us to live life on our own. The Bible talks about surrounding yourself with a fellowship of Believers. We are to minister to each others needs, to hold each other accountable, and to educate and build each other up through God's Word.
"As iron sharpens iron, so a person sharpens his friend" - Proverbs 27:17
So how can I plug in to my church? You can join and attend a Sunday School Class. Personally, I feel that the title "Sunday School" does not fully describe what this ministry is all about. "Life Group" hits a little bit closer to the mark. Most people think it is only Bible Study, but it is so much more. These small groups of Christians are designed for us to grow closer and to minister to each other. It should be a safe place to open up and be vulnerable with our brothers and sisters in Christ so they can help you through the valleys in life, and in turn, you can strengthen them when they are dealing with life problems. Read the following text from The Purpose Driven Life:
“There should be seven characteristics of biblical fellowship: We will share our true feelings (authenticity), forgive each other (mercy), speak the truth in love (honesty), admit our weaknesses (humility), respect our differences (courtesy), not gossip (confidentiality), and make group a priority (frequency).”
― Rick Warren, The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here for?
Whether you attend the 8:00 or the 10:30 Worship Service, we should all be a part of the 9:15 Sunday School. If you have not plugged into a class yet, let me strongly urge you to find a group ASAP. If you need guidance in choosing a Sunday School class, please contact me or someone on our church leadership team, and we will be happy to assist you.
Living in Grace,
